February brings some new faces to the Inspired Mic at Leroy’s 19th Hole, the Country Club restaurant and bar for the Cypress Knoll Golf Course in Palm Coast. In the coming two weeks this site will display the presenters who will be on stage on February 17th. With two months under our belt at Leroy’s, we feel we have the recipe for an even better event this month! We are excited about our growth and the community’s interest in local talent. Please check back each day for a little insight into our Inspired Mic Event presenters!
Tom Sisti is a 60 year old retiree from New Jersey Bell/Bell Atlantic/Verizon.
In 2002, Tom enrolled in an Adult-Ed class entitled “Introduction to Magic”. The class was held in Clifton (N.J.) High School.
One of the classes was on the same evening as our instructor’s “Magic Meeting”. Dennis is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM), the Lyndhurst, N.J. Chapter.
The meeting was held in a church rectory. Attendees included magicians from their late teens to their 90’s. Two magicians, who I later found out were well-known N.J. magicians, were at this meeting.
The evening began with a short business meeting. Following the meeting a “theme” was introduced. For example: Rope magic, card magic, coin magic, etc.
A sign-up sheet was placed in the front of the room. Performers would sign their name and perform a trick. Most of them showed how the trick was done, but some egotistical few would not.
It was a great meeting. I was extremely impressed. I attended almost regularly after that night, and joined the IBM the following month.
My first interest was children’s magic. It did not take long to realize that children can be difficult to sit through a show, stay put, and be patient. Plus if one child sees something they should not have seen the entire audience immediately knows about it. My wife assisted me and made balloon animals after each show. She spent more time making the animals, and a second or third animal for many children, than I spent with my entire show.
I then turned to strolling, close-up, walk-around magic. That was more enjoyable for me. The audience was mature, and appreciated the magic. I felt more comfortable with this venue.
Only last year, Mystic Mel, Peter Bugnet (pronounced boon-YAY) and I, created The Thr3ee Magicians. We do 3-act stage shows. We are leaning toward “fund-raising” magic shows.
We performed in front of a sell-out crowd at The Fair Trade Café of Palm Coast in May of 2014. We are discussing returning to The Fair Trade.
We are hoping to work with groups such as Christmas Come True, The Elks Lodge, The Rotary Club, The Kiwanis, just to name a few.
Mystic Mel and I are performing at Leroy’s 19th Hole in the “E” section, on February 13th and 14th, in front of four dinner seating’s. We hope to make Leroy’s a regular venue, for various events.
I was at The Magic Castle in Hollywood, accompanying my good friend, Bob Solari from BobSolariMagic.com, in 2010. Bob was giving a lecture to fellow magicians. This is a wonderful venue for magicians to both perform and watch magic.
I currently am active with the International Brotherhood of Magicians; Daytona Beach Chapter. We meet the third Thursday of each month in Palm Coast. We meet at 6pm, at a restaurant, have dinner, talk and share magic. We also bring ideas, and problems we are having with a magic trick. This group ranges in ages from 12 through 80.
Magic is an art. It takes lots of practice to perfect a trick. The magic trick we buy is 10% of the actual performance. Putting together your own story, patter and handling it the difficult part.
Thank you very much,
