Inspired Mic Spotlight – January 2015 – Terry Michael Hagans

January is upon us and the  Inspired Mic returns to Leroy’s 19th Hole, the Country Club restaurant and bar for the Cypress Knoll Golf Course in Palm Coast. In the coming two weeks this site will display the presenters who will be on stage on January 20th. One of the beauties of Leroy’s 19th Hole is we have a capacity of nearly 100. In December, more than 60 people showed up for the event! We are excited about our growth and the community’s interest in local talent. Please check back each day for a little insight into our Inspired Mic Event presenters!

For over thirty years I investigated labor relations disputes. By the time I retired I’d learned how difficult it could be for individuals to say precisely what they meant, never mind recalling exactly what it is that happened. Helping them “get it out” without putting words or ideas into their heads was usually worth it, particularly after vocal expressions took shape as written narratives that conveyed a “clearer picture.” Eventually I learned that I, too, could best express my own realities and truths in the same way. Writing became a friendly habit.

Since “retiring,” I’ve taken to writing now and then short pieces that come to mind. Friends and strangers have often called my style poetry and I accept that sometimes they may be right. Their appreciation is an encouragement and it can be a pleasure to share my observations about relationship to a place or person, to the present or the past, or maybe just about something felt or seen. It’s particularly rewarding, even fun, when others see themselves or their life experiences in something you put into words.
