The December Inspired Mic will see us at a new location, Leroy’s 19th Hole, the Country Club restaurant and bar for the Cypress Knoll Golf Course in Palm Coast. The following two weeks this site will display the presenters who will be on stage on December 16th. With the new location comes some new perks. We are excited about our growth and the community’s interest in local talent. Please check back each day for a little insight into our Inspired Mic Event presenters!
Carol Fisher and her husband Jeff are the owners of Flagler Beach’s BeachHouse Beanery Café, which has been home to “The Inspired Mic” for the last year and a half. Carol is a writer, in the sense that she weekly produces the BeachHouse Beanery “What’s Brewing” newsletter, is a contributor to the Flagler County tourism site, “Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches”, and frequently journals, but considers herself “far from a writer”!
After enjoying being an audience member at The Inspired Mic for many months, Carol got the urge to be a presenter, but not of her own creations.
Her mom often did “recitations” at local Talent Shows in the farming community where Carol was raised in Southwestern Arizona. In those days they only had two channels on TV, and no video games, skate parks, or sports for girls! So after “barn-dances” and hayrides went out of fashion, the local school and church often held pot-luck dinners and talent shows. Carol’s mom (now a published author) presented a collection of Spoonerisms. Spoonerisms are words or phrases in which letters or syllables get swapped. This often happens accidentally in slips of the tongue (or “tips of the slung” ) The term Spoonerism came from Rev. W. A. Spooner, a late 1800’s English Clergyman noted for such slips of the tongue.
Carol has presented, much to the hilarity of The Inspired Mic audience, stories like Rindercella and the Stugly Epsisters, Little Hood Riding Red, The Pea Little Thrigs, Beeping Sleauty, Goldy Bear and the Three Locks. She’s working her way up to Ali Theeva and the Forty Babs.
When not goofing around with words Carol can be found baking quiche and muffins and rum cake, making her Tarragon Chicken Salad, brewing lattes, chatting with patrons at the BeachHouse Beanery, running for groceries, and —-not quite often enough—walking on the beach.
