The Inspired Mic Spotlight – Tovah (Patricia) Janovsky

I asked Inspired Mic presenters to send me a little something about themselves and what they write. I gave them free reign to pick and choose material about themselves that would be informative and promotional. As The Inspired Mic grows, potential audience participants would like to know something about those who steel their nerves and get up in front of a live audience to present their creativity. In the following days leading up to the October 21st event, each of the October readers who send me their info will be In the Spotlight:

Tovah IMTovah (Patricia) Janovsky

Tovah (Patricia) Janovsky came to Florida in 2008 with her husband John. Born in NYC, she lived in NYC, Ithaca, NY, and Las Vegas, NV.

As far as books go, she best remembers Dostoyevsky’s “Brothers Karamazov” . She found a small two book set of the work and dove into it. It explores matters of faith, reason, spirituality and morality. The novel has found acclaim with some of the world’s major thinkers, from Sigmund Freud, who ranked it among the best literature of all time alongside “Hamlet” and Sophocles’ “Oedipus the King,” to Pope Benedict XVI. She loved musing about the characters in the story. To her, the pie’ce d’resistance was in the chapter where intellectual brother Ivan taunts faith-filled Alyosha with a fantasy parable about The Grand Inquisitor. Here Jesus is accused of heresy and is relentlessly questioned by the inquisitors. It went on for pages, but she loved every minute of it.

Tovah never took her writing very seriously even with publication of full page pieces for local papers in Ithaca. She wondered, is my writing any good? Thanks to Christine Speno she found a Florida Writers Association group and went to get some critiques, which were rather good. Then after hearing her reading of a funny poem at a poetry open mic, Chris Bodor of Poet Plant Press invited Tovah to write something for an anthology he was putting together “Florida Speaks” and so “It’s A Jungle Out There” made it into print.

Now a new free verse poem “Impressions of Arthur” is slated to appear in a new literary journal (a new project from Chris). The journal is called Ancient City Poets, Authors, Photographers, and Artists (AC PAPA).

In October 2014 Tovah and hubby took a cross country train trip to San Francisco to visit their daughter and returned on 10/12 with a notebook full of short poems and fun stories from their travels. A new blog post should appear about it soon at
