Hi! My name is Mike. I use my full name, Michael Ray King, for author purposes. For instance, when I went searching for a domain name, the only combination available with my name was my full name. Michael King is about like John Smith. So is Mike King and any number of other combinations.
Another reason is branding. To write professionally, I felt my full name lent a more polished persona to the name. Therefore, when my domain name fell out the way it did, I decided to set my branding as my full name.
I’m glad that’s out of the way. I grew up in West Virginia, moved to Raleigh, NC for 18 years, then to Palm Coast, FL for the past 13 years. I long to be back in the mountains with the lovely autumns and springs, and I especially long for snowfalls, crackling fireplaces, and mugs of hot chocolate.
I have six children, two out on their own, and four still at home in early 2012. Currently three are teenagers and one is six-years-old. Quite an interesting mix…
I love to write. I am looking forward to getting my first novel out. In actuality, my first novel is a group novel written with my Rogues Gallery Writers cohorts. This is a focus writer’s group I formed back around 2007. We’ve written a collection of short stories together titled Writing is Easy. We also have a second, smaller collection titled, More Writing is Easy. Our novel goes by the title of The Method Writers: Four Writers, Four Methods, One Twisted Novel.
So far, I have written two books of poetry titled Loves Lost and Found (2009) and Poetry in Black and White (2012). Both books contain excellent interior art, one a collection of acrylic paintings that interpret the poetry, the other a collection of photography that interprets the poetry.
Since I have six children, I wrote a book on fatherhood. I felt like I had earned the right. Basically, I wrote down everything I did to bond with my youngest child from pre-birth through 18 months old. The book is titled Fatherhood 101: Bonding Tips for Building Loving Relationships.
I recently finished up writing a book on publishing for entrepreneurs titled Rock Your Business: Your Book as YOUR Business Card. This book will be out early March 2012. I have been in the publishing business since 2007 and I’ve learned a few things along the way…
With all this going on, my main passion is writing fiction. I want to write the great sci-fi novel that wows the world. I have three novels in the works – and they’ve been stuck there for years. For me, writing a novel is toughest of all. One of the reasons for writing The Method Writers with the Rogues was to find out how to go about completing a novel start to finish. Now that I have that under my writing belt, I believe it is time to finish off a couple of these books…
